Any person who would like to earn their GED, is welcome at the ELCA Outreach Center’s GED program. This FREE series of classes meets at the Center two times a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:00 PM. Our GED program is affiliated with the Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) Even Start Family Literacy Program.
We have five classes available per year, which correspond to the sections of the GED tests:
Reading Comprehension (10 weeks)
Math (15 weeks)
Science (15 weeks)
Social Studies (10 weeks)
In addition, we offer a 4 to 6 week-long class that focuses on test taking, essay writing and general learning skills.
To help ensure our students’ success, we teach our GED program as separate classes in both English and Spanish. Space is limited to 30 students per class, so be sure to sign up early to secure your seat. Additionally, students can now choose to take all four of the GED tests in English or Spanish!
We encourage our students to take the subject test when the class session ends. When you feel that you are ready to take the tests, the ELCA Outreach Center offers a payment voucher for each participating student to take each of the four GED tests: Reading Comprehension, Math, Science and Social Studies.
We understand that it is a big commitment for parents to come to class. We offer FREE CHILDCARE at the ELCA Outreach Center for GED class students.
“Every time we have a student pass the tests, it is a success,” says program liaison Hansel Lugo. “The benefits we see in those former students’ lives are amazing. Not only does a GED open up new opportunities for a person to work, it also boosts their confidence and lifts their spirits as people and members of the community. We are so proud of every single student who passes the test!”
If you are interested in joining our FREE GED preparation classes, please call or stop in at the ELCA Outreach Center. We operate on an open enrollment basis, so you can join us at any point in the course (if there is space available).
